About This Service

Bee & Wasp Removal in Yuma County

Yuma has a significant Africanized honey bee population. Africanized bees are far more defensive than European honey bees and can attack in large numbers with minimal provocation — yard equipment, lawn mowers, even loud music near a hive have triggered attacks. Established hives in homes, sheds, palm trees, valve boxes, or utility cabinets require professional removal. DIY attempts cause serious injury every year.

Wasps — paper wasps, mud daubers, yellowjackets — are less aggressive but still need removal when nests are near doorways, windows, pool areas, or kid spaces. We use full PPE, work at dawn or dusk when activity is lowest, and remove the hive material rather than just killing the bees so re-occupation is much less likely.

Why It Matters in Yuma

Built for the Local Climate

Africanized bees are not theoretical in Yuma — they're established. Every year, Yuma sees hospitalizations and occasionally fatalities from attacks. If you see a swarm landing or an established hive on your property, do not approach it. Don't spray it with a hose. Don't try to knock it down. Call us or another licensed removal service.

Wasp nests near pools, BBQ areas, and front entries are routine summer work. Paper wasps build small umbrella nests under eaves and patio covers. Yellowjackets nest in wall voids and underground burrows. Mud daubers are mostly harmless but the nests look terrible. We handle all of them and remove the structure so the next wasp colony doesn't find a pre-built site.

Service FAQs

Questions Yuma Homeowners Ask

  • How do I tell Africanized bees from regular honey bees?

Visually you can't — they look identical. Behaviorally they're very different: Africanized bees are extremely defensive, attack in larger numbers, pursue intruders much farther (a quarter mile or more), and react to lower thresholds of disturbance. In Yuma, treat any established colony in or near your home as Africanized and call a professional.

  • Is it ever safe to approach a swarm or hive?

No. Established hives in walls, palm trees, or utility boxes warrant a professional every time. A landed swarm (the cluster you sometimes see hanging on a tree branch for a day) is sometimes less defensive — but in Yuma the safe assumption is still don't approach and call us. We'll triage over the phone.

  • What's the difference between hive removal and just exterminating?

Extermination kills the bees in place. Removal kills the bees AND extracts the comb and pheromone-saturated material. Without removal, residual pheromones attract the next swarm and re-occupation happens within months. Full removal is more work but it's the durable fix.

  • What if I'm allergic to bee or wasp stings?

Tell us up front and stay inside the home during the removal. If you've had anaphylaxis before, have your EpiPen on you during scheduling — and we'll work around your presence on the property. For active attacks (not removals), get inside immediately and call 911 if you've been stung multiple times.

  • When is the best time of day for removal?

Dawn or dusk. Bee and wasp activity is lowest when temperatures are below 60°F or when the colony is settled for the night. Yuma summers force a narrow window — we'll often schedule for 5:30 AM or 8:30 PM. It's safer for us and faster overall.

  • How do I tell paper wasps from yellowjackets?

Paper wasps: longer body, dangling legs in flight, umbrella-shaped nests under eaves with visible hexagonal cells. Yellowjackets: shorter, stockier, faster flight, nests usually hidden in wall voids or underground (you'll see workers entering and exiting one spot). Yellowjackets are much more aggressive — treat them as a higher-priority removal.
